Detail
Myjava is close to our hearts. The competition assignment was conceived as an urban-architectural task, and since we have the school of a meaningful Slovak urbanist, Professor Tibor Alexy, it was an opportunity to express an opinion on the formation of urban spaces.
The competition sought possible answers to the question of how to fill the empty area after the former and now defunct bus station and how to connect this new tissue to the urban organism. In addition to housing, the new development should also include facilities for shops, services and leisure activities. A special request was also to resolve the dilemma of the planned B2 road, which is anchored in the city plan and can significantly ease the inner city's traffic, but for now it represents an unrealistic burden on the city's budget.
We designed an interconnected system of linear and central public and semi-public spaces that would support outdoor living, walking and healthy community life. Four green yards - inner blocks, a small square in front of COOP Jednota, a multifunctional sports field in the northern part, a park and linear spaces along the main street corridors, plus a new pedestrian zone in the extension of 1. SNR street - moving through the territory can be filled with various experiences and places for relaxation, meeting, children's entertainment and sports.
We placed housing and all other required functions in an outline of five multifunctional houses connected by a covered colonnade, which will help create the line of the street and at the same time filter out some of the traffic noise towards the inner blocks. In the northern part, we added another dwelling building with the same footprint as the house in the neighborhood. In the wider planned area, the proposal adds several dwelling houses on the opposite side of Novomestská ul., further buildings that will define street corridors towards the city center and three pavilions next to the newly proposed pedestrian zone. We kept the B2 class municipal road in its original place, we only reduced it to half the profile, thereby making its future a reality.
