The aim of the invited competition was to propose a concept for the development of the brownfield of the former sawmill, which should become the basis for a change in the zoning plan. Malacky is ambitious and action-packed and the same mood is shared by a group of investors who have extensive plans with the sawmill area.
Our reflections on the future urban structure follow the following theses:
· Create a locality of an urban character, complete the missing urbanized article in the body of the city
· Set the scale of buildings and spaces in the context of existing buildings in the area
· With the help of a network of walking routes to support the interconnection of the environment towards the Castle Park, the summer swimming pool, the Malávia shopping center, the railway station and remotely to the center of Malacky
· Shorten the mutual distances of the mentioned localities
· Create a sensually rich environment on a scale between two polarities - a busy urban atmosphere versus peaceful living in the countryside
· Choose a varied and balanced mix of housing, shops, services, sports, culture and leisure activities
· Design a system of continuously adjoining public and semi-public spaces - promenade, squares, pedestrian routes, green residential courtyards
· Support and preserve local memory:
1. to preserve and functionally adapt fragments of the original identity of the sawmill area - wood dryer and half-timbered objects
2. transfer the lines of the original parcelling to the new structure
3. renew the water feature - the lake on the Malina stream
