Detail
Slovakia is getting older, and many competent people are starting to worry about who and where will take care of the growing number of lonely or dependent seniors in the relatively near future. No one wants to end up in an inhospitable large-capacity rest home where, in addition to the complete loss of privacy, there is bad air and pervasive bleakness. Old age can be long and you have to prepare for it. The architectural study of the Home for elderly for the Podhorie municipality contemplates a solution for how to create an environment for future recipients of social services that meets the criteria of deinstitutionalization and universal design, and which at the same time supports environmental and social sustainability
The intention of the project is to make maximum use of and refine the natural potential of the location, to take into account the natural character of the terrain without radical changes, and to urbanize the territory in accordance with the logic of the local development of the village. The urban concept develops two levels of reasoning. The first is to set up the building in such a way that optimal accessibility is achieved, the required orientation of the living rooms to the east and west, and that the rooms and social rooms have a nice view of the landscape or the Lietava Castle. The second level concerns the landscape framework, while the project creates a trio of functionally and characteristically different exterior areas. In the contact position with the cemetery in terms of the territorial plan, a park for the public is created, which forms a green barrier between the cemetery and the grounds of the Home for elderly. At the same time, the park borders the boarding area to the facility. In the center of the building, in the grip of its wings, there is an atrium conceived as a landscaped and protected green area, which will provide several possibilities for active and passive relaxation (easy walking, exercise, sitting, joint interest activities, etc.). The fourth side of the atrium is closed by a covered terrace, which will provide a background even in bad weather. The third landscape feature is a green area in the upper part of the plot with a view of the surroundings and the potential for own garden activities. Due to the slope of the plot, the areas of greenery from this part of the complex optically blend with the extensive greenery of the roofs.
