The ASB special with the title Personalities of Slovak Architecture I. is about twenty actors of the contemporary Slovak architectural scene, about whom it is good to know more than just their best-known works. Andrej Alexy is among them, and in an interview with editor Broňa Tarnócy, he reveals all sorts of things that you won't read about anywhere else.
Andrej Alexy in an interview:
"I consider urbanity to be a fundamental parameter of quality as a set of several factors that also include sociological and emotional dimensions, how people behave in the city, how they normally function in it and what image of reality it leaves in them. After all, part of a high-quality city is its artistic value, the proportionality of objects and spaces, visual attractiveness, i.e. what is difficult to quantify through land-use planning tools, but what we can directly include in its planning, but there is also what can be influenced as an urban planner I don't know, but I can count on it and use it wisely, such as sunlight, sounds of nature, snow, wind, sky... The city is all this and much more, and I firmly believe that soon we will experience a re-appreciation of urbanism, which will be liberated and acquire at least the same importance as spatial planning."
"If we are talking, for example, about living in the city, I am convinced that its structural concept should strive for integration into the urban organism, which ultimately contributes to the social integration of its residents into local life. I'm not a fan of houses seemingly randomly scattered in the greenery, which have proliferated quite a bit in our cities recently. They are forms that do not bind the city or the people together, and rather have a disintegrating effect. I have always been, at least in an urban environment, a supporter of block development, which is typically urban and has good prerequisites for creating community communities, and I am glad that the block of flats is experiencing a well-deserved rehabilitation."
