Tibor Alexy Award

The award for urban planning, which for a long time bore the less communicative name ZUUPS Award (the award of the Association for Urbanism and Spatial Planning in Slovakia), is being changed to the Tibor Alexy Award. With this act, the Association of Architects of Slovakia completely unified the names of all the awarded awards, and in addition to Dušan Jurkovič, Emil Belluš, Martin Kusý and Jozef Lacko, urbanist Tibor Alexy joined the important heroes of architecture. 

At the end of his life, Professor Tibor Alexy expressed his concern whether the lifelong efforts of the trio of pioneers of Slovak urbanism with name AKT - that is, Alexy Kavan Trnkus, would not be left without followers. The renaming of the award is a gesture of reviving the reference to this phenomenon of Slovak urbanism of the second half of the 20th century, notable especially for the balanced linking of pedagogical activity, research and practice. The Alexy&Alexy architectural office, which Tibor Alexy co-founded, claims to be his "school" and continues to develop inherited knowledge and urban planning practices in its projects.
